    For example, if the course registration limit is 10 credits, students can register for a total of 16 credits including 3 credits for thesis research and 3 credits for prerequisite courses.

Application Period

Criteria for Offering Courses Courses are offered if there is at least one student enrolled.
Course Coordinator
  • - Assigned to the student's affiliated department or advisor (if there is a student under supervision).
  • - Each professor is responsible for opening one class section.
  • - If the advisor is dispatched as a research professor (domestic or overseas), a co-advisor is appointed, and a research class section is opened by the co-advisor to allow graduate students to enroll.
Course Registration
  • - Students must register for the class section opened by their advisor (if the advisor is registered in the university's online system).
  • - Classification: "Major"
    * Even if the department offering the course section differs from the student's affiliation, the classification remains "Major"
Maximum Credit Limit for Course Registration
  • The maximum credit limit for course registration is an exception.
    (10 credits per semester + 3 credits for thesis research = 13 credits maximum registration per semester).
Grading Method
  • - Grading is done on a Pass/Fail basis.
  • - The advisor evaluates research project performance, seminars, presentation materials, etc., for thesis writing, and then assigns grades.
  • - The basis for grading must be retained for five years.
Full-time Faculty Responsibility Hours Includes responsibility hours (excluding those eligible for excess lecture fees).

Graduation Review Criteria

  • Those Enrolled for Four Semesters or More
  • Those who have earned credits (24 for Master's, 36 for Doctorate, 60 for Integrated) and achieved a GPA of 3.0 or above
    Those who have completed the prerequisite courses designated by the head professor of the department at the time of admission (limited to eligible candidates)
  • Any duplicated courses taken within the same program will only recognize the earlier completion.
  • Courses recognized as equivalent or similar at the time of admission cannot be duplicated for credit.
  • If courses taken during the Master's program are duplicated during the Ph.D.program, they will not be recognized.

Foreign Language Examination

Master's degree program
  • For enrolled students: Candidates must have completed at least 12 credits in their major field in the semester immediately preceding the exam (excluding prerequisite courses and transfer credits).
  • For graduates: There is no credit limit.
    • ※ Candidates who have passed the exam and have exceeded 6 years after graduation must retake the exam.
    • ※ Students on leave of absence are not eligible to take the exam (however, returning students may apply to the university).
Ph.D.degree program
  • For enrolled students: Candidates must have completed at least 12 credits in their major field in the semester immediately preceding the exam (excluding prerequisite courses and transfer credits).
  • For graduates: There is no credit limit.
    • ※ Candidates who have passed the exam and have exceeded 8 years after graduation must retake the exam.
    • ※ Students on leave of absence are not eligible to take the exam (however, returning students may apply to the university).
Passing criteria [Foreign Language (English or Major Foreign Language) and Second Foreign Language Exam]
  • Master's Degree Program: Score of 60 or above out of 100 (70 or above for English Literature and Language majors)
  • Ph.D. Program: Score of 70 or above out of 100 (80 or above for English Literature and Language majors; those who choose the same subject as their major for the second foreign language exam must score 80 or above)

Comprehensive Exam

Master's degree program
  • Examination Subjects: Four subjects determined by the departmental faculty meeting.
  • Current students: Those who have acquired credits (excluding prerequisite credits and at least 24 credits in the major) in the semester immediately preceding the exam.

  • Graduates: No credit restrictions.
    • ※ Those who have passed the exam and have elapsed 6 years after graduation must retake the exam.
    • ※ Students on leave of absence are not eligible to take the exam (However, those planning to return to school may apply to the university).
Ph.D. degree Program
  • Examination Subjects: Six subjects selected by the departmental faculty committee according to each major.
  • Current Students: Those who have obtained credits equivalent to or exceeding 36 credits in their major and prerequisite courses in the semester immediately preceding the examination.

  • Graduates: No credit limit.
    • ※ Those who have passed the examination and have exceeded 8 years after graduation must retake the examination.
    • ※ Those on leave of absence are not eligible to take the examination (except for those scheduled to return to the university).
Passing criteria
  • Master's Degree Program: A minimum score of 140 out of 200 points is required.
  • Ph.D. Program: A minimum score of 210 out of 300 points is required.
    • ※ Minimum requirement: Achieve at least 70% of the total points allotted for each examination section.
