JBNU-KIST Convergence Department
The JBNU-KIST Convergence Department was established in October 2022 to facilitate the continuous operation and expansion of the University-Industry Professor System and the Regional Convergence Research Project between Jeonbuk National University and the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST). The department focuses on education and research in the fields of "Carbon Composite Materials" and "Secondary Battery" to develop new technologies needed by local and domestic companies and cultivate specialized talents.
With the aim of training advanced professionals in the fields of energy materials, carbon fiber materials, and composite materials at the master's and doctoral levels, the department provides a differentiated education program by not only employing full-time university faculty but also inviting research institute professors and industry experts as adjunct professors to participate in teaching. Furthermore, the department offers full tuition support at Jeonbuk National University and provides training incentives through assignments at KIST Jeonbuk Branch for graduate students.
In the academic year 2024, six new students are scheduled to enroll in the first semester, with a total of 10 students, including four continuing students from the second semester of 2023, expected to undertake assignments at KIST. In the first semester of 2024, the department plans to offer two or more courses taught by KIST professors, and in the second semester, it aims to develop demand-driven courses in collaboration with participating companies and offer courses taught by adjunct professors who are industry researchers. Additionally, in January 2024, the department plans to conduct two short-term education programs, one each in the fields of carbon nanomaterials and secondary batteries.
Joint efforts in cultivating specialized personnel in eco-friendly advanced mobility materials and components.
