Graduate School Introduction

Department Head Greeting

Hello I am Professor Lee Seung-hee, the department head of the JBNU-KIST Convergence Department. Welcome to our department's website, and thank you for your interest in our department. Our graduate school is composed of professors with outstanding research capabilities based on the 'University-Industry Professor System' and the 'Regional Convergence Research Project.' We aim to promote domestic research and development in the fields of carbon composite materials and secondary battery through the education of specialized master's and doctoral students, fostering synergy between academia and industry, and promoting the commercialization of technology. Additionally, we strive to promote the localization and enhancement of technology related to carbon composite materials and secondary battery, as well as to facilitate employment by promoting practical joint industry-academia projects that meet the needs of the industry.

Unlike traditional departments, our graduate school is unique in that professors from the College of Natural Sciences and the College of Engineering at Jeonbuk National University are involved in education and research for the first time. Particularly, researchers from KIST and senior researchers from various companies participate as departmental professors and adjunct professors, jointly conducting research and education with professors from Jeonbuk National University. The curriculum is also tailored to meet the demands of local companies, and lectures are delivered not only by professors from Jeonbuk National University but also by researchers from KIST and industry. Currently, our department has 29 professors from Jeonbuk National University, 13 researchers from KIST, and 6 researchers from various companies participating.

Established in October 2022, our department operates the "Regional Convergence Project" and the "University-Industry Collaboration Platform Project" with support from the Ministry of Science and ICT. We provide competitive scholarships to all graduate students and offer opportunities for students to conduct research at KIST Jeonju Branch or in research laboratories at Jeonbuk National University according to their preferences.

We are also committed to actively supporting the entrepreneurial activities of our graduate students. We encourage many students to apply to our department and wish them great success in their entrepreneurial endeavors. Furthermore, we will generously support graduate students in pursuing their desired paths by linking with other campus projects such as global-local businesses. Once again, I sincerely ask for your interest and support.
